The world’s steepest funicular railway

The Stoosbahnen – funicular from Schwyz and aerial cable car from Morschach – access the car-free mountain village of Stoos. The funicular, the steepest in the world, is a technical marvel, making the journey itself an impressive experience.

The Stoos funicular connects the valley with the car-free mountain village of Stoos and is considered the steepest funicular in the world. With a maximum gradient of 110%, it climbs a considerable height difference over a length of around 1.7 kilometers and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains during the journey. The railway was designed so that the cars remain horizontal during the journey and meet the highest safety standards. The mountain village of Stoos offers visitors numerous hiking trails, panoramic viewpoints, and leisure activities. The viewing platform on the Fronalpstock offers views of countless pre-Alpine peaks and over ten lakes. Great souvenir photos can be taken from the photo platform.
